MelinHead FAQ
1Do you just use regular rattle-can paint?
No, we utilize proven high-tech coatings designed specifically for abrasion resistance, durability, salt-corrosion resistance, and flexibility. These are two-part chemical industrial coatings.
2Is MelinHead Customs a certified Gunsmith?
MelinHead Customs is not a certified Gunsmith. Therefore, we will not dismantle or assemble any weapon. The weapon or item should be provided in a broken-down state allowing painting and template layout. MelinHead Customs will perform their due-diligence during the painting process to ensure that the design layout corresponds to the right assembly techniques.
3How long does it take to complete a bow or weapon?
Typical turn-around is about 3 weeks.
4Will MelinHead Customs assemble my bow?
MelinHead Customs utilizes our local bow shop (AZ Archery Club) to do the final assembly. They perform a "Pro-Tune" for $50.00 which includes complete greasing/lubing, assembly, cable/cam tuning, paper-tuning,and many other functions to get your bow ready to shoot.
CeraKote FAQ
1What are the various types of Cerakote™ available?
MelinHead Customs provides Cerakote™ can provide firearm coatings (H-Series - oven cure) and High Temp Firearm coatings (C-Series for optics, high temp, and air cured). Other coatings may be available upon request.
2What colors of Cerakote™ available?
MelinHead Customs can provide any of the Cerakote™ colors available on their website. Refer to Cerakote™ Firearm Coatings colors.
3What is CeraKote™?
CeraKote™ Firearms Finish is a two-part ceramic-based paint.
4How durable is Cerakote™
Cerakote™ is a permanent industrial coating specifically designed for firearms. Cerakote out-performs any competitive gun coating in both laboratory settings and real world applications.
5Is Cerakote™ durable?
Impact Resistance (ASTM D2794) measures the resistance of organic coatings t the effects of rapid deformation (impact). Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black was tested to have an impact strength measuing 160 inch-lbs which is the maximum the impact tester can measure. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Durability.
6Is Cerakote™ corrosion resistive?
Salt Spray (ASTM B117) Corrosion testing is used to evaluate the relative corrosion resistance of coated panels exposed to a salt spray or fog at an elevate temperature. Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black was tested at numerous specific hourly intervals. At 3500 hours, Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black was not corroded. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Corrosion.
7Is Cerakote™ hard to scratch?
Hardness or Pencil Hardness (ASTM D3363) is measured by using different grades of pencil lead to cut through a coating surface Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black finished strong with a 9h hardness rating, the highest hardness rating that can be achieved. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Hardness.
8Is Cerakote™ flexible?
Flexibility, or Mandrel Bend (STM D522), testin is measured by placing a coated panel in a conical mandrel apparatus and bending the coated test panel over a conical shaped mandrel in order to ass the elasticity or resistance of a coating to cracking, elongation and/or detachment from the metal test panel. Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black finished strong with a 9h hardness rating, the highest hardness rating that can be achieved. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Flexibility.
9Is Cerakote™ REALLY flexible?
Yes, MelinHead Customs regularily paints Mathews, Hoyt, Elite, and other high-end bows with CeraKote. CeraKote is really flexible. No cracking while flexing.
10Is Cerakote™ resistive to chemicals?
The ability of Cerakote™ H-146 to resist chemical attack was tested by dipping coated panels int a series of solvents to which the coating may be exposed during regular use and extreme conditions. Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black fwas classified as excellent for 14 of the solvent tests. The chemicals included gun cleaner, WD-40, Brake Cleaner, denatured alcohol, lacquer thinner, MEK, acetone, gasoline, mineral spirits, paint stripper and a 5% HCL solution, and others. This indicates that the coating was not affected following a 24-hour immersion in the solvents. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Chemical Resistance.
11Does Cerakote™ adhere to materials?
Adhesion (ASTM D3359), is a test method fo analyze whether a coating has adhered to a metal substrate. Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black finished strong with a 5B adhesion rating, the highest adhesion rating possible. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Adhesion.
12Is Cerakote™ abrasion resistive?
Taber Abrasion (ASTM D4060), is a test using a weighted abrasive wheel that rotates at a constand speed to determine the resistance of finishes to abrasion and wear. Cerakote™ H-146 Graphite Black finished strong by lasting nearly twice as long as the nearest competitive finish and 24 times as long as the furthest competitive finish. For further information refer to Cerakote™ Abrasion.
13Is there other performance tests for Cerakote™ ?
For further information refer to Cerakote™ Testing.
